Shooting Range

Range

The indoor range is available to Rec Center members and guests for archery and small caliber firearms. 

A range supervisor must be present at all times. Ear and eye protection is required and will be provided if needed on a first come first serve basis. No one under the age of 11 is permitted in the archery range without a parent or adult supervision. Anyone 15 years or younger must be accompanied and supervised in the firearms range be a parent or responsible adult. Anyone 16-18 years of age must either be accompanied by an adult or or must complete a Hunter Safety course and present a vaild card upon request. All firearms must be unloaded. All firearms and ammunition must be in a carrying case or bag when entering or leaving the recreation area. Holsters are not permitted or considered proper carrying cases. No firearms or ammunition shall be left unattended or stored in the lobby, gym, locker room, or any other area of the recreation center. All firearms, ammunition, bows and arrows must be stored outside the recreation center before and after using the shooting range. The Evanston Recreation Center is not responsible for lost or stolen firearms, ammunition, bows, arrows, accessories, or equipment.

Permitted Firearms

Pistols and Revolvers .45 caliber or less

Rifles .22 caliber rim fire or smaller

(no FN 5.7mm, 17HMR or .17 caliber)

Small Caliber Open Shoot

November  – March

Stay sharp or shoot for fun all winter long in the safe, automated Recreation Center shooting range. Each participant must provide firearms, ammo, and targets.

Bow Hunters/Archers Open Shoot

November  – March

48″ x 48″ Block Targets

Limited youth equipment is available, Targets accommodate most bows and arrows.

No broadband tips permitted

Hunters Safety

Anyone born after 1/1/66 must pass Hunter Safety to legally hunt. Class size is limited (35 max). Should be 8 yrs. minimum to enroll.

February 3-7

Class: Monday – Friday 6:00 – 9:00pm (attendance required at all classes)
Instructor: Skeeter Crompton
Location: Class held at B.O.C.E.S. Education Center, 1013 W. Cheyenne Dr.
Testing and open shoot night at the Recreation Center on the final night of class
